What is remote work

Remote work is also called telework or e-work, because the freelancer uses modern technologies and sends the results of his work to the employer via the Internet. He contacts him via e-mail and instant messengers.

Teleworking works well for employees who analyze and process information. The results of their work do not require physical contact with the employer or are intangible. However, it will not work in every field. It is recommended mainly for representatives, the so-called free professions – graphic designers, cartoonists, copywriters, SEO specialists, editors, translators, as well as for young parents who want to reconcile work with taking care of their children.

The coronavirus pandemic meant that at some point most employees worked from home, remotely. The anti-crisis shield introduced provisions on remote work, which are currently regulated in the Act of March 2, 2020 on special solutions related to the prevention, counteraction and combating of COVID-19, other infectious diseases and crisis situations caused by them.

Remote work can be regular or ad hoc. We talk about the second case in an exceptional situation, e.g. the employee must be at home on a given day because he is waiting for the intercom fitter, and therefore the employer allows him to perform his duties at home. There is also a classification that takes into account how much time the employee performs his duties remotely, according to it, e-work can be divided into:

  • permanent – full-time remote work,
  • alternating – some days the employee works at home and others in the office,
  • supplementary – full-time stationary work, in exceptional situations the employee takes work home.
